Confession — this one's personal. I didn't realise Universal Quantum's HQ is ten miles from my house. A University of Sussex spin-out. In Sussex. Bloody hell.
They build quantum computers out of trapped ions — single charged atoms held in place by electric fields, doing the maths. The stuff standard computers can't touch: jet engines, drug discovery.
What makes it interesting to me? Live contracts. They're building and selling actual kit, not just papers.
And now a hundred mil Series A. Proper hardware money, for proper hardware, in the Home Counties.
Good luck. And godspeed — from just up the road.
